Wandering the Streets of Athens

This post doesn’t have a theme — unless you count “random things that interested me” as a theme. But I’ll chunk these photos together, anyway.

Athens has a lot of graffiti. A lot. PRI’s The World even produced a report about it last year.

Cats and dogs roam the streets, sit under dinner tables, and hang out at all of the cool tourist sites. I never had trouble with any of them, but others find them to be an intolerable nuisance. I saw a ton of calico cats. (Note: the last cat pic was taken on the island Hydra.)

I have a knack for stumbling into political rallies, too. This one occurred in front of (and near) the Greek Parliament building.

The Athens Central Market was very lively, and after my first walk through, I decided to get an audio recording of the butchers and fishmongers who were promoting their products. Give it a listen while you look at the photos. (Note: I have no idea what anyone is saying in this recording, but everything you hear was said in a public space.)

Bonus Photo!

I ate an embarrassing amount of chicken gyros. They were inexpensive, and they were great.
