Edinburgh Castle is pretty much a “must see” for folks making their first visit to Edinburgh. I was excited to learn some of its history, and I was handsomely rewarded.
I’m sharing some of the photos I took while wandering the grounds. The views of the city from Edinburgh Castle are really nice, so I’ll start with those. But first, here are a few tips: purchasing your tickets ahead of time would be a better idea if you’re in a hurry. The ticket lines are long — I waited at least half an hour to purchase one. Lots of people will be there, so just be patient if there’s a horde of sightseers standing between you and whatever you’re interested in. And, if you time your visit right, you can catch the One o’clock Gun.
Occasionally, I get lucky and am able to view historical items before they are permanently taken off of display. That was the case for the Colours of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Scots.
Edinburgh Castle has some swanky fireplaces.
